Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy
Platelet Rich Plasma therapy is a treatment to fight the signs of skin aging and certain types of hair loss. Blood contains platelets, which have growth factors and other signaling proteins that stimulate the skin’s natural repair and regeneration processes. After a simple blood draw, the plasma is separated from the rest of the blood components. This plasma has a high concentration of platelets and is therefore rich in cytokines and growth factors. This is what is used to stimulate repair and rejuvenation of the skin in the area that is treated.
PRP is a treatment for:
Skin tightening and toning
Reduction of fine lines and wrinkling
Acne damage and scarring
Dark circles under eyes
Sun-damaged skin around the eyes
Improvement in genetic and age-related hair thinning
PRP is a simple, minimally invasive treatment that can be completed within an hour. A small amount of blood is drawn and then placed in a centrifuge for separation. We add an activation agent that stimulates the platelets and acts as a scaffold so where we treat your body, the PRP stays and does not disperse. This allows the healing cascade to be focused in a specific area. The PRP is then separated and transferred to a syringe. It is then either applied topically after a microneedling treatment or injected into an area of concern.
How many treatments will be needed?
Initial results are seen in as little as one treatment. Depending on the degree of improvement that is desired, patients may desire multiple monthly treatments. When used as a treatment for certain types of hairloss, we recommend a series of 4 monthly treatments with maintenance 1-2 times per year.
Drink plenty of fluids, because we will be doing a blood draw. Please do not arrive for your appointment with active flu or cold or other infectious diseases. You should not be treated if you have any of the following medical contraindications: active skin disease, cancer, chemotherapy treatments, severe metabolic disorders, blood disorders, chronic liver pathology, anticoagulation therapy and use of steroids within two weeks before the treatment. Do not use Aspirin, Motrin, Ibuprofen or fish oil supplements for at least 10 days before the treatment.
You may experience some bruising, redness, and swelling. Do not massage the area of treatment right after the treatment. Do not smoke and do not do any intense exercise for at least for 3 days. Walking is acceptable.
If your PRP treatment was with a microneedling procedure you should not apply anything to your skin for the rest of the day. You will begin skin care the day after treatment.
